[#686] 100 Bad Days

Maybe
A 100 bad days made
A 100 good stories
A 100 good stories make me
Interesting at parties

AJR, ♫100 Bad Days♫

Even after Pose Fair and Skin Fair end (there are only a few days left for each through the end of today) I will still have a lot of material to work with for posts in the foreseeable future. There’s just so much to dive into that it can easily make your head spin. Looking from the viewpoint of a consumer going to these two particular events (or any events really) it makes me think of the gif (or meme) where Fry has a handful of cash and the caption says “Shut up and take my money!” That’s what comes to mind because there are so many wonderful things to explore not just for the bloggers or Second Life photographers but also just every day things (such as building a new look for your avatar).

Boo’d Up has several different pose offerings for Pose Fair but I took a liking to the Aesthete pose pack. It contains five different bento static poses (which this cross-legged one is by far my favorite). Inside the pack there is also single poseballs for each pose if you choose not to use it in your own stand or you have rezz rights to the location you are taking photos at.

I’ve been wearing a lot of short hair styles in pictures lately so I thought it might be time to switch it up. Lock&Tuft released the “Ackerman” hair a while back but I finally found a way to put it to use in a look. This style also comes with a hat (the name of the type escapes me as I’m writing this) which you can wear as part of the hair or solo without the hair if desired. There is a HUD to accompany the hat with 6 different texture styles and the HUD for the hair itself boasts 66 different colors (from solids to hombres).

For my skin I am wearing the Richard skin from Lure. It’s made for CATWA brand heads and is suggested to be worn with Victor for the best look. Bakes On Mesh layers as well as an applier HUD are the ways you can wear this but keep in mind that the body appliers/BOM layers are sold separately. When I first put this on I felt like the face reminded me of someone. Perhaps a video game character at first but then I started to think about it more and thought it reminded me more of the vocalist from Shinedown, Brent Smith. The face has very distinguishing features and has a more mature look which those who are fans of this type will really clamor for it.

It also felt appropriate that I used the Vice X #Adored Sleep Depo Shadows. They give a great example of a tired look which seems fitting for the look of the skin that I have on too. This set of 9 color variants (in two styles) are Bakes On Mesh layers only and optimized for CATWA branded heads. It’s possible that they may work with other BOM capable heads but I haven’t tried them so it would be something to try at your own risk.

When all is going wrong
And you’re scared as hell
Watcha gonna do
Who you gonna tell

[#663] A Winter’s Tale

The nights draw in
There’s a silky moon up in the sky
Children are fantasizing
Grown-ups are standin’ by
What a super feeling

A Winter’s Tale, ♫Queen♫

With this latest round of Pose Fair being winter themed I’ve been getting use out of many of the sims that change from season to season or those new sims that just happen to pop up for a short time for the holidays. Take the Silent Night Resort sim which is a winter wonderland that is a cozy place to take your person on a little quaint date. From the cozy little forts to the coffee/cocoa shack it’s fun to just walk around and see what kind of photographical fun can be had.

Taking advantage of the beverage shack, I felt like it was a good spot to use the Motive8 “S~20” pose set which has five different poses and includes a snowflake cup that is held in the right hand for each one. For the scene it was the perfect marriage of setting and pose so for me when that happens it makes getting things together a snap (there’s a pun there I’m sure).

TMD’s round for December has plenty for the male consumer with a variety of clothing, skins and accessories such as rings, poses and skyboxes and after taking a look through it there’s plenty that caught my eye. Though one of my favorite things to hit the booths is the “Havoc” Sweater by Lapointe & Bastchilld’s Swear imprint. Inspiring warm feelings on a cold day and as such a cold weather sim and picture.

The sweater is also named after the insanely popular jeans and most recently leather pants (which of course coordinates well together). For a more formal look I matched it up with the Swear Slacks which are part of the Edge Suit to make it a classier affair but I’ll be looking forward to wearing with the other two Havoc products. Best thing about this is that the HUD for the FATPACK contains 45 different styles of sweater and breaks down as follows: 18 Cable Knits, 19 Variegated Wool and 8 themed designs (such as the one I’m wearing!)

The Havoc Sweater is compatible with Belleza (Jake), Signature (Geralt + Gianni) and SLink (Physique) mesh bodies.

Winter forms our character and brings out our best.

[#662] Messing With My Head

When you said it was real, guess I really did believe you
Did you fake how you feel when we parked down by the river that night? That night?
That night when we fogged up the windows in your best friend’s car
‘Cause we couldn’t leave the windows down in December

Good Things Fall Apart, ♫Illenium (feat. Jon Bellion)♫

When I was brainstorming for this post I was trying to think of what I wanted to pair it with song wise. Right now I feel it’s too early personally to start using Holiday/Christmas songs even though I’ve seen other photographers and bloggers use them in their work. So what I’ve decided to do (and hopefully I will stick with this) is to take a song that I have in my Rock Band library. Sure I’m guessing there are some that will read this and ask themselves “Wait that’s still around?” The answer is yes, it’s still around and I still enjoy it even if I’m only partaking in two of the instruments out of the four available to currently play with the Rock Band 4/Rock Band Rivals configuration.

“Good Things Fall Apart” is one of the more recent additions to the game as downloadable content and after hearing it on the radio, I couldn’t get it out of my head so I waited for the right time to use it. The fact that it makes a reference to the month of December was another significant part of choosing it. With the look, pose and now inspiration set I descended upon The Bay, a sim I’d not been to in ages and it also has a winter look for it which coincides with the theme for Pose Fair.

Speaking of Pose Fair, I have watched SVP Poses go from a relative unknown to thriving very highly within the posing community. I know a little bit about Sony V, the owner and creator for the store as a fellow member of the LumiPRO group. It’s nice to see other photographers (or bloggers) get into doing things outside of that and as I said in the previous post without poses the prospect of photography (and blogging) would be vastly different.

The Prox Pack contains 5 bento poses that is a mix of upright standing and slight leaning poses with both hands doing a sort of a double pointing gesture. This set can be yours when the winter edition of Pose Fair starts this weekend on the 7th of December.

Cold-Ash made a double release last month at TMD that I didn’t get back in time for but I am making up for that now. The “Raphael Shirt” and “Alessio Trousers” appeal to my formal nature (which seems I cater to more than usual lately). The shirt itself has two versions of it that give you the option to have it buttoned up with a tie as you can see in my photo and also a version without the tie that is partially unbuttoned. I would imagine that kind of styling might get noticed a bit more. Raphael also has a high and low waist variation (of which the latter can be used with the Alessio trousers.) The FATPACK HUD boasts 10 colors for the shirt and 32 different tie options

With two different cuff options and an included belt option, the Alessio trousers are the perfect compliment to the Raphael shirt or just about any dress shirt you may have in your virtual closet. The FATPACK has 15 fabric colors for the pant and 6 for the belt leather (if you decide to wear the belt of course). My attire might not entirely match the scenery of the photo but I’ve told myself more or less that I wasn’t outside long enough to get cold.

Both these articles of clothing are compatible with both Belleza (Jake) and Signature (Gianni) mesh body types.

[#660] Over My Head

Second guessing, I’m so stressed
Success is an empty lie
So what’s the point if that’s our purpose
On Earth by design?

Over My Head, ♫Judah & The Lion♫

This post in a way is redundant in the fact that I’m doing a fall scene yet where I’m from we maybe had like a weeks worth if that of actual fall. It’s just before Thanksgiving and it’s more winter than anything but that is the unpredictability of it. Anyway, I found some inspiration venturing around sims that are found on the Blogger and Vlogger Network’s list of rezzable sims. I wasn’t necessarily looking for a fall background and in the same vein I was also not looking for a winter one but would have made it work if I’d found one. I really liked the colors that Pegasoi had as I roamed around and stumbled upon a bench with a very nice looking home as a nice backdrop (even though it’s not a backdrop in the SL sense of the matter).

One of the hairs that lock&tuft released while I was on my sabbatical/hiatus (not sure what I really want to call it at this juncture) is called “Groom”. I’m not sure if that’s a reference to say a wedding groom or just that it’s a well groomed style. My mind sometimes tends to try and make rhyme or reason for things even if there may not be any intended meaning behind something. I really like that it comes with both a normal style and a messy one so that conceivably I could wear the normal version at the beginning of the day and by the end have on the messy one before I log out to show that I’ve potentially been up to no good, right?

Somewhere in between the time of me being away from the blogging world and now, Tori Torricelli offered to their VIP group members the “Cormac Scarf & Sweater” for free as well as one to gift a family member or friend. I thought this was one of the coolest things for a store to do and I had grabbed mine (it was at TMD when the offer was available) and have been sitting on it for a bit of time until I thought that it would work for this particular blog photo session. It’s perfect for a fall day jaunt without feeling like your virtual self would come down with some kind of illness (yes I’m aware it’s not possible but work with me here). The scarf and sweater both have HUDs (this is for the Fatpack version) with many different styles to choose from and I went through several before I decided on what you see in the photo. This is by no means my usual pallet but I wanted to try something different and that worked with the colors that were around me.

I am quite happy with the results and maybe this is a good sign of things to come.

[#658] You’re The One Who Holds The Stars

If you can hold the stars in place
You can hold my heart the same

So here I am, lifting up my heart
To the one who holds the stars

Skillet, ♫Stars (Film Version)♫

For the first time in the history of this blog I won’t be making one of my traditional Halloween posts, my last entry is probably to be considered my attempt at doing something for my favorite holiday. The past few months have brought about some struggles and challenges for me emotionally but the best thing for me is to figure out how to handle them my way and as much as I thought blogging would be one of them it just hasn’t been. In the time I’ve been mostly absent from creating posts and things I’ve just been trying to figure out what makes me happy and when I log in to take a photo and turn it into the blog I don’t consider it a chore like it was starting to become. I will probably slowly integrate being more regular but it’s potentially not going to happen til the first of the year (or so I hope). Bare with me those friends of this blog and of mine personally, your support has always helped carry me where I needed to be when I’ve needed it.

A lot of my past October posts were usually dark because it’s a spooky month and I revel in it but for this I just wanted to do something a bit more uplifting. I picked a song that has a good meaning behind it and can be viewed in many different ways and I found a backdrop that worked out perfectly to support my idea. Paparazzi’s “Starlit Staircase” is a beautiful backdrop that has a great ambience about it and was able to come across better than doing an outside night shot which often don’t turn out well for me.

My hair comes from the current round of Man Cave and is by lock&tuft. “Christopher” is a messy mid-length style that comes in many great tones which I chose a brown tone because my usual black would not have shown up well in the shadows of the dark staircase. It comes complete with hairbase for Catwa, Genus and LeLutka depending on what your preference in head choice is, you can tint it to match the color of your hair quite simply.

Session Skins is one of my favorite stores for skins and I’m happy to be wearing “Dante” for this post. This is the first time that I’ve worn one of their skins with Tone 03 in it and it is slightly more tanned then Tone 02 is but it’s still awesome. This one also caters to the more mature male avatar needs as it comes complete with eye wrinkles and forehead wrinkles then previous releases which is also very appealing because not everyone wants have their appearance be young (and that’s a plus because it shows depth).

Of course I also found myself wearing the flannel version of Deadwool’s “Hart Jacket” because Houndstooth. I felt like I needed that because it’s very much me and I’ve pretty much always styled myself the way I wanted to but when I start to get back on the horse it is going to be even more so how I operate. Focusing on trying to be more of a quality over quantity blogger and not completely burning myself out is what I’m working my way back to and I think I’ll get there even if it takes some time.

The last most important thing I want to impart is that you should take the time out of your day to tell someone what they mean to you even if it is just to say “you’re a cool person and glad to have you around” or “you make my life better just because you listen without question”. These are just the kind of things that may not seem like much but make a world full of difference. Give it a try and see how you feel afterwards and best of all it costs nothing.

[#657] Something Wicked This Way Comes

Sit around for awhile until I’m old
I made them step into the cold
no one can stop what I’ve begun
cause something wicked this way comes

Tony Iommi (feat. Scooter Ward), ♫Something Wicked This Way Comes♫

I felt like I needed to at least get some kind of October creepiness in during the month even if it’s not on Halloween proper. There’s still a high chance I might make a post for it but I’m not going to say that I am and then if I don’t then I would be going against my word which is something I tend not to like to do.

At Collabor88, you can get one of two new hairstyles from lock&tuft both of which feature accompanying masks. I couldn’t resist wearing the male version named “Jack” because it looks pretty creepy in a spooky (and not to mention stylish) way. The hair and mask are separate each with their own HUD’s to change their appearance. Note though that for my photo I used the white hair and used the editing tools within the Firestorm viewer to make it more crimson to match my suit and make me even more of a devil. There is also a half version included without the huge tongue but I wanted to go for the gold because to me it just fit what I wanted to do a lot more.

I wouldn’t wait until the last day of the October round (which is Nov 7th) to pick this up because you could definitely use it as part of your Halloween getup.

Paparazzi has a really fun backdrop at Salem this year, which is one of the really cool events that runs during October (which even though I don’t like the weather change, I love October for a lot of other things like Halloween). The overall appearance makes this one of those photography aids that any lover of this genre particularly happy.

One of the best things about it is the built in lighting so that you don’t really have to do a whole lot during scene setup if you do not want to and with the right windlight would make for a great photo; I’m rather happy with the way this session turned out. Make sure you get to Salem before the 31st otherwise you’ll have to wait until it gets added to Paparazzi’s in-world store!

[#643] Groove Is In The Heart

DJ Soul was on a roll
I’ve been told he can’t be sold
He’s not vicious or malicious
Just de-lovely and delicious

Deee-Lite, ♫Groove Is In The Heart♫

From time to time I do blog posts that are intended to be goofy for the purpose of trying to balance out some of the emotion. I have no real reason why I don’t do it more often but I should but it seems like some of the songs I hear that drive feelings tend to win out over the more amusing stuff. I’ve got two pose sets and a decor item to share in what I’m considering to be a fairly simple and bare bones entry.

Taking pictures where I’m the focus is mainly what this blog is about but of course from time to time I have Brenna join me or my brother Lucky will sit in for a photo (thought it’s been a while dude!). This time I decided to do something super different and have my sister, Xandria and her guy Taka get in front of the lens. It was really nice of them to take the time to pose for me even if Xandria photobombed me with an animesh clown (don’t think I wasn’t going to out you!). But all the jokes aside it was a fun time and the results of the session were satisfactory.

Image Essentials has two new pose sets available at Vintage Fair, “Boogie Nights” and “Get Down” (see a theme there?) Trying to find attire that would have accurately fit these poses would have been difficult as the event itself didn’t have much in the way of hippie chic or 70’s wear. There are clubs that have theme nights which most people don’t dress to match it so that’s the idea I went with for this.

Each of these pose sets have five poses (each one with a mirrored version) depicting various groovy dance moves. Cycling through these gave me a chuckle because I can just imagine the actual dances in my head from different movies with some kind of funky backing track. As far as vintage goes, these poses hit the mark.

The sign you can see in the scene is Silence’s “Retro Arrow Sign”. I am using the “Dance” version in Red/Yellow (it also comes in Blue/Orange and Pink/Blue) as well as other sayings in these colors such as “Drink”, “Eat”, “Games” and “Live Music”. For anyone that has a club and wants a little vintage feel then this sign would add a little extra something to the decor.

Life I love you, all is groovy.

[#642] Come On Let’s Go

Well, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, little sweetheart
Forever we can always be together
Come on, come on, let’s go again

Richie Valens, ♫Come On Let’s Go♫

While my coverage of Vintage Fair 2019 is starting to come closer to an end there’s still plenty of time to visit and shop the event. While you are there I encourage you to explore and look around because because the sim is well put together and it would be a disservice not to check it out even if you cannot find anything you’d want to purchase.

Brenna joins me for this photo and I give her credit for giving me the idea for the song being used to back the post. There were several different choices for it but they were not as vintage as her suggestion so I she gets the win on this. So thank you for giving me a hand with this you’re the best!

I’ve tried being as vintage as I can with these posts but settings are hard to come by when you need them so if they are not entirely time accurate I’m just going to have to be forgiven for it. I’m just trying to blog great products and make sure that the event and items get seen by as many people as I possibly can starting with the pose/prop from Secret Poses called “The Ride”.

This mesh vintage convertible prop comes with 5 built in poses (adjustable via menu). I really enjoy classic cars as there are many from past era’s that are fun to look at during car shows or also on restoration programs where they rebuild an old classic. These machines are pieces of history that should be preserved if at all possible because it helps us see how designs have changed over the years and the technology that exists now that did not when these beasts roamed the roads.

In addition to that I am wearing the “Ruth” glasses by eVe. These unisex glasses have a unique throwback style to them and if they have a name I honestly could not tell you but at least I’m being honest instead of trying to fake it through a description. A resize script within the glasses help with any adjustments that need to be made and they also come with a HUD containing 4 different elements that can be recolored including the frame, lenses and embellishments. These glasses are unisex so they can be worn by anyone who enjoys a unique pair of shades.

I‘m going to make a quick note that I’m glad that Brenna came up with the Ritchie Valens tune as I do enjoy hearing his music when it plays somewhere or I go to it on a youtube video/link. In the real world I remember my mother mentioning him and how the world reacted to the news of his passing along with Buddy Holly and Big Bopper.

I saw this played out on film in La Bamba and can’t imagine what it was like for not only his friends by his family as well as there was talent there that could have continued to make music and maybe eventually be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Though it could also be said that it may never have happened and that it only became so special because he didn’t get to live a fulfilled life. Pretty sad to think about but with the music we were given, I’ll take it and be grateful for having heard it and experienced it.

I stick with a ’60s vintage aesthetic of letterman’s jackets, plain T-shirts, and good jeans.
G-Eazy

[#638] Leader Of The Pack

She was so small
As she kissed me goodbye,
Her tears were beginning to show
And as she drove away on that rainy night
I begged her to go slow
If she heard I’ll never know

Twisted Sister, ♫Leader Of The Pack♫

I‘ve been thinking (which is dangerous most times) that Vintage Fair is a celebration of past fashion, furniture, styles and appearance. When I began to put this scene together I came up with the theme song for the post very quickly. While the original recording itself is vintage I decided to go a little closer to a cover version of “Leader Of The Pack” that is in my time frame. Twisted Sister’s version is certainly a classic in its own right and truly how often do I have a glam rock/metal bands to support my blogs?

I based the scene on the “50’s Diner” backdrop from Hopscotch as well as adding my own personal Jukebox from Standby Inc. (who sadly I have found is no longer creating new items…RIP). The backdrop comes furnished with really cool details (table, condiments, napkin holder and neon sign just to name a few). I like the addition of the scenescape of a street outside the diner if you’re taking pics from the inside but it’s also nice that you can snap them from the outside looking in as well for a variety of ways to style your scene.

Completing the scene I am making use of the SVP “Bamwen (Male)” pose pack which includes a seated one that allowed me to seat myself on the edge of the booth, allowing me to assume the role of a pretty cool biker dude. After saying that last bit I gave myself a laugh but I’m going to keep it in instead of redacting it because it may make someone reading laugh too.

I’m also going to include the vendors for the backdrop for added features as well as the poses to show the rest of the pack that isn’t visible here. Other key items from the scene is the “Tom” skin by Sessions Skins, the “Kojima Jeans” by Deadwool, “Godfrey Hair” by Modulus and “The High Line Biker Jacket” by Tori Torricelli.

[#627] All Along The Watchtower

All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants too

Jimi Hendrix Experience, ♫All Along The Watchtower♫

When I was thinking about songs that I felt would go with the visual of this blog I came up with a few of them but the one that stood out was “All Along The Watchtower”. Originally by Bob Dylan, it’s almost always associated with Jimi Hendrix who did a cover version of it a year after it was first recorded. I have nothing against Bob Dylan, the fact remains that I’ve already used some of his songs already and until today have never featured anything from Hendrix, who I have always felt was an amazing talent who left the world too soon. Perhaps maybe some of the best musicians who were gone much too soon could have continued blazing a path or could have fell off the face of the planet but it’s something we’ll never know as we cherish the things they gave us while they were here.

I chose to visit Ironwood Hills, which is a place I enjoy going to when I want to do some kind of post-apocalyptic scenes. Though with this I didn’t throw in any zombies or anything because I’ve done that and I wanted to make it more about anticipation instead of action. While I may not actually be on a watchtower in the scene, I am keeping an eye out with this pose set by Kirek Poses called the “Defense Pack” there are three different poses each with an accompanying rifle. To me the pose I picked really shows that I’m surveying the area but if need but would be ready to defend myself from whatever could be around the corner.

Kirek Poses – Defense Pose Pack

  • Bento static poses (poseball versions included)
  • 3 different poses
  • Rifle for each pose included
  • Pose Fair exclusive until 05/25/19

My wardrobe is a mixture of both old and new but I’m going to focus on the event specific things that have hit some events this month. My glasses are a part of a new gacha from BlankLine that have two different styles of glasses each with different frame colors to play for. Somehow I got lucky and was able to pull the RARE from the machine that includes a HUD that can change the lenses on it with emoji’s and things like that. I am going to have to see if I can get my hands on one of the commons I was looking for because after getting the the most sought after prize, I felt like I shouldn’t keep trying my luck.

I also have been hanging onto these for a bit since Anthem opened because I wanted to break them in for the right scene and they almost made it into the last one but I reserved them for a little longer. I’m talking about the “Kojima Jeans” from Deadwool, and this is I believe the first major jeans release for the store since the collab with Blueberry a few years ago; I may be wrong so if I am I’m sure someone will inform me. These are fantastic and great fitting with several features including three different leg bottom styles (Deep Cuffs, Rolled Up and Stacked) and for those interested in getting the FATPACK there is a cool belt loop chain included but for those of you who just want maybe one or two color choices you’re in luck as well because it is sold separately too.

The beard I picked up from LeLutka maybe a week or so ago has literally been one of my most favorite things ever and seemingly haven’t been able to take photos without it. I think this evening was the first time I went without it as I took Brenna to the big prom that was posted about on Facebook. I wanted to truly clean up well and did so by shaving my face so I looked fresh. I’m sure that by tomorrow the beard will be back or by the time I take the next photo but we will have to see.

“All art is a kind of confession, more or less oblique. All artists, if they are to survive, are forced, at last, to tell the whole story; to vomit the anguish up.”
