About a month from now I’ll be celebrating the 5th anniversary of blogging and the 4th of being This Conversation Kills. I’ve been blogging under this banner for so long that most people who know me or what I do don’t know that I started my personal blogging career as “The Saints of Fashion{ation}”. I did so for the first year through the first 100 posts and realized that it wasn’t the identity that was fitting of who I was and am.

With that in mind I’ve transported those first 100 posts in their glory to a new blog location, The Saint of Fashionation. I’m going to be placing it in my blogroll for posterity even though it won’t be active as it is for archival purpose but it’s a great way to see the transition from where I started to where I am now.

Along the way I’ve met some really excellent and helpful bloggers, designers and just general people through social media like Facebook that have been encouraging. I’ve blogged for many great brands some who I have been with for a long time and have built a great partnership with and to me that is a testament of not giving up even when things have been tough.

I should be saving this kind of writing for the next blog which will be my 600th post overall in less than 5 years which for me feels very impressive. Though it’s only just the beginning for me as the virtual world continues to provide me with content to be able to make visual stories that incorporate fashion from both genders as well as accessories like backdrops and decor.

Starting this blog off is the backdrop I am using which is from Paparazzi and is called “Chinese New Year” which most people already know happened already so I’m late to the party. I just love the look and detail of the backdrop and it isn’t so much me celebrating the “Year of The Pig” but just finding something visually appealing to have as my surroundings.

I love how the light comes off of the vases to the left of me (which is the viewers right). That is one of the things I love best about items with materials, they way they react to lighting to give it much more of a dramatic effect and a realistic one at that.

Swank is an event that has been host to Bakaboo fashions for quite a long time now, it is one of THE events to be able to grab Ocean Blackthorne’s unique creations and is where you can get the latest outfit combination “Robert”. The patterns in this outfit are visually beautiful and made it hard to choose which one that I wanted to wear.

This outfit does come in three separate packages but can also be bought all together with quite a bit of savings. It also has an animated option which if I could get a good video capture of it, would be able to show you just how cool it is but after attempting it several times without success it simply wasn’t meant to be.

Stepping out on the grid with such colorful fashions will certainly catch eyes and turn heads. The coat, pants, and shoes have 5 different colorful alternating patterns with the coat even giving you an option to go shirtless or wear a base color (Black, Gray and White) shirt. The shoes themselves also have 3 different choices within the 5 patterns (two different patterns and one mixed of the two).

Just when I had thought that I was done with my coverage for The Men Jail this month, I found two more items that worked with this outfit to accessories it to the max. CHEERNO’s “C4 Glasses” are very stylish and the options that come inside the HUD add to what I feel is a pretty cool look as it is. They gave me a feeling that I was styled like say Elton John which I feel is a compliment to one of the world’s best entertainers for the last 4 decades if not more.

In addition to that I have on the “Wilson Hat” by Crystal which is a bucket style hat adorned with an affixed cross that comes in both gold and silver versions. The only thing that I would have liked more from this hat is that it came in a version other than black; I realize that it goes with just about everything it would have just been cooler to have a colorful version to accompany the outfit that I am wearing. This hat reminds me a little bit of something that Prince might have worn as well so with the glasses I’m pooling together a look of two of the coolest and flamboyant musical acts and to me that’s pretty cool.

In all though I really enjoyed putting a look together that was not my usual type of attire which I will fully give credit to Bakaboo for. Whenever I blog the clothing I feel like I am sharing one of the grids best kept secrets that everyone who doesn’t know about will have the chance for themselves. [#575] I’m On Top Of The World

Wow…that’s the word that would best describe the first two weeks of this year so far. I could try to explain it in greater detail but I feel like I would likely get close to novella type proportions by describing everything that’s gone on. The fact is that I have been really getting back something I thought might have been lost somewhere along the way last year; it just needed a jump start.

Part of this resurgence is my constant work with items from Pose Fair. Many of the items have given me a lot of ideas and I have some for things I haven’t blogged yet but hope to get to now that I fulfilled the main things that have been asked of me. Killing it would be the best way to say in regards to the fair and I feel like a kid in a candy store. I love having brands with clothing as partners but I think in ways I really get inspired most by poses so it makes sense that I am inspired so much by this event.

The other part is the support and encouragement I’ve received from Brenna, Lucky and several others that are a part of my little tribe. I know the people with which I can count on and I know that if I ask for their advice that I would get a straight answer without any bs responses that would cater to what I wanted to hear and that’s something anyone would want out of their people.

I also earned a new brand partner which as soon as there is a new item to blog I will talk about it more and truthfully I am still pinching myself believing that it actually happened but it shows me that hard work pays off even when you least expect it to which is why I chose “On Top Of The World” by Imagine Dragons as my soundtrack for this blog entry. It is my current state of mind and also there is a line in it about paying dues and as a blogger I know I pay them all the time without ever really wanting anything in return.

The hairstyle I have on is the latest release at TMD by Modulus, which is of course a favorite brand (not just saying it because I blog for them but I do consider the teams I am apart of favorites as well as being passionate about them). “Miles” is a short style that has a few little strands of hair that run along the eyebrow region.

Out of the latest release that Modulus has made I figured this worked best as my pixels are parked on top of the fictional version of the CN Tower, aka Bad Unicorns “Tower 6”. To be completely honest though the real me would never be that brave to try and find a way to just chill on top of a huge place like that without a parachute mainly because I’m deathly afraid of heights; it’s a good thing nothing happens if you accidentally fall off something tall in Second Life.

Landing is not impactful nor will it cause permanent damage to you.

For The Men Jail I have two items in my style to share and I will start with the “Isis Eyes” by Madame Noir. I have to say that this are definitely more for fantasy looks but I like them so much I really didn’t care (as I don’t really do those kinds of photos although I should). Each color has a metallic feel to it which works great with many lighting sources to pull out their intensity.

The jacket I have on is from Kaju, I wore a sweater from this store in the blog that featured me doing insane sledding. This item is called the “Eric Jacket” and is an open styled jacket with a shirt that has 6 different colors for each part in the FATPACK version. Kaju in the last few rounds of TMJ have put out some great items that I have been excited about showing off and I hope this trend continues. I hope that readers of this blog check this store out and give them some love and support because I definitely feel they deserve it.

Sometimes with events I get introduced to stores that I may have never heard of before or know very little about. To me that is akin to listening to the radio or going on YouTube to watch videos and finding new music to listen to that I am likely to become a fan of. So for this round of Pose Fair I have been introduced to a store called POSIES, which I have the honor of blogging their “Men Mood Sits” pose pack.

Sitting poses are tricky sometimes because I always feel like if I use them with a piece of furniture that already has poses, it is somewhat like false advertising because if someone chooses to go look for the furniture in the photo and tests out the poses while not finding the pose that I used it can be very disappointing I imagine. Being that there is not any poses in the tower, I am able to use this set without feeling guilty or leading someone astray.

One of the best things I like about this set is that it offers mirror poses (some sides photograph better just like in real life) and also has versions for short and tall avatars. That truly is an amazing thing that I think could be considered by pose creators in the future as not everyone is the same height on the grid (there are short avatars; some that are mid sized like myself and then there are some that could give the Jolly Green Giant a run for his money).

I hope the positivity of this pose carries on to anyone reading this because good things can happen when you least expect them too. [#562] Maybe We’ll Find Better Days

Decidedly I took some time to think about this year and the holidays and I wanted to do a blog that didn’t focus on the struggles I deal with specifically during this time of year. What I wanted to do was find something that had meaning and “Better Days” by the Goo Goo Dolls was my way of doing that. It’s not a Christmas song but applies to the holidays and is as applicable now as it was when it was released twelve (12) years ago.

Humankind sometimes fails to forget the little things like wanting the best for their fellow person (be it man or woman) and often times people can come off as snarky, unkind, or devoid of feeling. Yes we all have our own battles going on in our lives whether it be our own or those closest to us but more often then not we dismiss what other people are going through. The veteran who might have lost a limb, the person that lost their job and has to resort to living on the streets, or even the child that is in the hospital with a severe disease.

There are people out there that need help in many ways and not all of us can afford to donate money, those that can I applaud you greatly. For the rest of us who may not have that option we can donate our time and our ear or shoulder to a person that may just need five to ten minutes to talk about their day and to see that what they are saying isn’t meaningless.

Lately it has felt as if the world has become more bitter than I remember and I am not going to point a finger at this or that because that won’t solve anything. As the year comes closer to a close I hope that we all can start to prepare to be our best selves in 2019 and help even one person on that past to be their best self because the world can be a great place (I’ve seen how good it can be without rose colored glasses).

It’s something to think about and I hope that anyone who does happen to stumble upon this blog post takes it to heart because as the song says “Just a chance that maybe we’ll find better days”.

There is still a few days left to shop the December round of The Men’s Department and after having made several trips there for things (and there may be one more stop before it closes up for the final time of 2018), I went back because I happened to get an awesome gift of credit to the Deadwool store. Fortunate for me the Deadwool vendors at TMD allow you to use giftcards/store credit so I was able to bring home with me the entire pack of the “Deserter Jacket”.

When I first saw this jacket at the beginning of the month I knew I had to have it but other things were a necessity before I was to even consider getting even one of the single colors but I was spared by receiving the gift card. There are three parts of the jacket that you can color change in the FATPACK with the included HUD.

One thing that I truly like best about this jacket is that it isn’t pristine and it has a worn look to it like it’s been with me for ages…suppose it could be considered “vintage” perhaps? Deadwool has once again made me a happy customer and has me waiting to see what the brand will put out next.

The Man Cave event is currently going strong with a lot of great things to check out like the “Owen Hair” by Modulus. This mid-length side swept hair is definitely a style that I feel suits me well and I can also say it looks better on me in a color other than black as well. The way it flows down the side of the face without covering the eyes also is something I like as well (adding that I can wear it on either side of my face with mirrored versions).

One of my weaknesses I feel is talking about hair even though one of my brand partners is a hair store, I seem to let me photos do the talking for them more than I can type things down for all to see. My descriptions are probably not the best but it is something I’m working on and will continue to work on moving forward into next year.

To simplify things, I like this hair and I think many fellas out there will enjoy it as much as I do.

Even though I’ve finished my requirement this month for The Men Jail event I still have items I want to blog from it while it is still open (which is for another couple days). I really liked the idea of pairing the Deadwool jacket with the “Brush Wash” Jeans by CHEERNO because to me they really fit well in the fact that they both have a vintage and worn look. Ever since CHEERNO started making clothing again there has been a lot of items that I’ve enjoyed blogging and this once fits in that category.

I can’t say exactly why I like distressed jeans with fraying holes other than it reminds me a bit of the grunge rock era that was essential to my formative years. It’s where I discovered the music that would inspire me with writing and also the films and shows that would play a role along with several teachers in school to help mold me into who I am today.

At the event there are also plain and muddy versions of the jeans which I think are just as cool and well worth checking out if The Men Jail hasn’t been a part of a planned shopping excursion (because it should be).

The holiday beverage that is in my hand comes from the Anti-Event and is made by Flair ‘n’ Style. The “Creamy Christmas Drink” is the caffeinated beverage I needed to help me get through several long days and also the photo taking for this blog. It is holiday themed with a straw (I’ll say it’s paper and not plastic) as well as a candy cane which everyone knows (except those who do not like them) are delicious.

Included with the drink are both wearable and rezzable versions of the drink along with resize and texture HUDs, the former has 6 different types to choose from all with festive cup designs. I may be just a tad cute for the overall feel of what I have done with this scene but in a way it fits too because the protagonist walking down the street has clearly been out probably looking for last minute gifts or somewhere to donate (like the Salvation Army for example).

Before I end this post I saved a one of the crucial parts of this scene for last. The “Dickens Street” Backdrop by Paparazzi is something that I felt really clicked with the idea and also the song choice that I made to correspond with the blog. The distressed clothing and walking past Ebeneezer Scrooge and Jacob Marley’s office which is famously from the literary classic “A Christmas Carol” felt right because perhaps maybe it was a future Tiny Tim walking by and remembering his childhood.

I love the detail of this build as it has a good feel to it and the built in lighting from the street lamps is just perfect (which I was hoping along with my chosen lighting would really make this scene magical). The backdrop was first a part of the Tannenbaum event which has since closed but luckily Drew puts out her items in her store after they’ve moved out of events. It’s certainly worth taking a look at to see what might inspire other photos or could be saved to do something with next year but either way it is an inspired piece.

At least for me it was.

I‘ve gone on long enough and there’s always work to be done so I’ll part for now with the style credits in my wake and feel good about what this post means personally and hope that it has meaning for others out there too.

[#543] Nutshell

October as a whole was definitely a crazy month with lots of different looks and blogs and by the end it felt like I was dragging a little bit so…after a few days of relaxation I’m back at it again and staring the month fresh. I’m not entirely sure what prompted me to put together the scene I did but I think that sometimes we all have this moment of solitude and was thinking about the song “Nutshell” by Alice In Chain, which became the soundtrack to the blog. I felt that when I was done with the scene that it fit the vibe of a beautiful yet haunting song.

As a blogger there are different levels of recognition some on a higher plane then others but regardless are still visible to a large group of people. Those bloggers who write along with their photos as I do sometimes bare more of themselves in their work and even though we are doing it the privacy that most people have is lessened.

While some might crave exposure (I can’t speak for anyone) others might feel like their lives are on display in a way they never thought it would be and that is how our lives are and there is always going to be an bump in the road or adversity that we must face and it is how we handle it that makes or breaks us.

November is now here and in a few days The Men Jail event is going to return with a brand new build with the same dedication to bring guys across the grid the best in fashion, decor, avatar accessories and poses. As I start to become a veteran of the event (being a part of the blogging team now for about 9 months and enjoying every part of it.

One thing I’ve noticed about the event is that it just keeps getting better and better which is what any event coordinator wants as well as the ability to keep bringing in well known designers as well as being able to bring more attention to the smaller ones to help them grow and become more popular and successful.

Cheerno is well known for skins, body parts (such as hair and ears) but now has chosen to strictly for the time being provide fashion and at this months round of The Men Jail they have a really fantastic turtleneck for sale. There are two color packs available for that have different colors in each HUD to change and I am using version I, though there are some similar colors in both. There is also a integrated color picker included in each HUD so that you can select your own color.

For my shoes I am wearing the “Adversity Sneakers” from DossiEr that were a part of a previous round of the Hipster Men’s Event but I had to get a redelivery because my inventory seemed to do that eating thing which is why I didn’t blog them sooner…2nd world problems I tell you!

To try and make the posts a little shorter and maybe be able to post more I’m going to focus on at least one to two new products and tell you about them as I have been and not try to cram so much into a post because even to me they tend to feel a little long so I’m going to try to streamline them a bit as best as I can from now on.

[#473] The Cheap Seats

It’s that time of year again, the smell of grass and the crack of bats and a full nine innings (sometimes more) which means the Baseball season is under way. I’ve noticed on social media fellow bloggers & photographers were at it right on opening day but I was preparing something and I wanted to do it without rushing or feeling overwhelmed by it.

The pose fair is about to begin tomorrow and fortunate enough for me the posemakers at Just Posing created a pack of poses called “Batter Up” with five different poses (a mixture of male and female which I’m sure you can get creative and go outside the box and use them all with either gender in mind) to choose from you’ll be able to catch the essence of the great American game. Also the bats are included with the poses so that you won’t have to try and find a compatible bat and figure out how to make it look right, they are included and fit each pose like a glove (haha see what I did there?)

I wanted to capture the spirit of a small time baseball spot something along the lines of what you might have seen in the movie, “The Sandlot” which is one of my top 5 favorite baseball movies of all time. Though I couldn’t quite find all the pieces I needed to make that I decided to be more low key and make something that was more of like a park ball diamond or something that little league and softball teams play on.

I’m not the greatest at set building so I used various things that I had laying around and the way the entire photo session turned out was really a fun process and turned out great. Those are the kind that really boost your confidence and add to the fun of what blogging can be. Yes I am a blogger for Pose Fair but I don’t feel like when I was doing this scene that it was a requirement, it was fun and it made me think of the summer and how I’m going to enjoy being outside not having to wear a jacket and spending time outside smelling the grills around the neighborhood.

For the outfit I went with things that were simple and what is more simple then jeans and a t-shirt? I could have looked in my closet and found something I’ve already worn but I had my eye on a basic tee at the Hipster Men’s Event made by CHEERNO, who we all knew as someone who made various mesh accessories, skins, you name it and after a break he’s back to creating and doing clothing which is just as well put together as anything I’ve ever seen from his brand. The “S/S 18 Tee Basic” which I am wearing in “Sand” because I felt like plain white was just something that was too obvious and wanted to deviate from the norm even if just a little bit. The tee fits the Belleza, Signature (Gianni), and SLink mesh male bodies but maybe some of the others could try a demo and see if they can use alpha cuts to make it work for them. It’s really cool as far as basic shirts go and definitely something I personally recommend if you are looking for casual wear.

Before I wrap things up, I wanted to take a quick moment to say that even though I created this blog earlier in the month of March I didn’t put together my first post until the 31st of the month. Today is the true 4 year anniversary of These Conversations Kill and with 473 posts under its belt this site has been one of my best achievements and I wouldn’t change any of what I’ve done with it or on it in these 4 years. I’ve had good times and bad (as all of us have) and I feel that even though I may not be where I’d like to be I am just on the verge of it and my thoughts have changed and progressed and will continue to bring my style from the grid to the grid. Thank you to all of you that have been a part of this journey past, present, and those who are a part of the future. For those of you who are unaware, the February edition of the SwagBag is going to be the last one. Luckily for those of you who were wanting to get some of the past boxes or have yet to get this month’s box you can go to their headquarters until the 6th of March and pick up any of the SwagBags for $2000. I’ve enjoyed receiving these boxes and I am a bit sad about them not continuing on but at least some really cool ideas and items came from them.

Inside the February SwagBag are two different pose sets from Come Soon Poses that feature boxing themes, one a singles pose set and the other made for couples. The gym backdrop is included and it’s just one of another well made releases from Come Soon. I enjoy their work and thought of an idea for using it and was finally able to put visuals to it.

Modulus is a contributor to the February round of Shiny Shabby with the “Ty” skin. This is a little bit different from their previous releases as there are three new different tones that have been added to the ones we already know. New to the brand are the Almond, Caramel, and Espresso tones and also have separate Omega or Signature appliers for the body. When I first saw the ad for this I thought it looked exactly like Tyrese Gibson but I’ve found out from a very good source that it was actually model/actor Tyson Beckford who the skin was designed after. Either way, it is surely a great looking skin.

I also picked up a few things to complete my boxing look, the INHUMANE shorts from BLACKX come in 5 different colors and to go with the next item I purchased from the marketplace I went with white.

Every boxer (no matter if it is professional or otherwise) needs to tape up their hands. There are not very many out there on for purchase that will work for Omega or [SIGNATURE] and that is what lead me to the MP. I picked up the white version of Mel Essence’s “Short Hand Wraps” They come in 3 different opacities (Light, Normal, and Dark).

It’s time for me to put the “wraps” on this entry so I will leave you with the credits and the transportation to get there so I can get to work on “knocking out” another entry. Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
